California tribes target 2028 for online sports betting

California tribes say they are targeting 2028 to advance a tribally led initiative to legalize online sports betting in the state, according to SBC Americas. The development was discussed in San Diego, Calif., where tribes pointed to the unprecedented competition of sports prediction markets as a reason to move forward.

“We’re still very much looking at 2028 as a date that tribes are preparing to move forward with a tribally led initiative for an online sports betting market,” the tribes said, signalling an intent to press ahead with an effort to legalize online California sports betting in response to prediction-market competition.
