Senators push to ban sports- and casino-style prediction markets in CLARITY Act

In the US market, a group of a dozen Democratic Senators is urging lawmakers to ban certain prediction-market products as the CLARITY Act moves through Congress, according to SBC Americas.

In a July 17 letter, the Senators asked the chairs and ranking members of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs and another key committee to include a ban on “prediction contracts that resemble sports bets or casino-style gaming products.” The request targets contracts that function like sports betting or casino-style games, even if they’re framed as prediction markets.

Player angle: If lawmakers draw a hard line between prediction contracts and gambling, it could affect what kinds of bet-like products are allowed to show up alongside traditional casino games. Our casino bonuses guide has the up-to-date picture.
