Japan’s Hokkaido Continues to Mull Integrated Casino-Resort Bid

Japan — The island prefecture of Hokkaido is continuing to contemplate a bid to build the country’s second casino, according to CasinoBeats. The report says Hokkaido remains in deliberation over whether to pursue an integrated casino-resort project.

Development has already begun on MGM Osaka, which is under construction and is set to become Japan’s first integrated casino-resort (IR). MGM Osaka is scheduled to open its doors in 2030, making it the first IR to reach the market.

The Japanese government is keen to approve two more IR projects, keeping the door open for prefectures that are considering bids. Hokkaido’s ongoing consideration is part of that broader national push to add further integrated resorts.
