Gambling Commission tightens UK gaming machine rules

The UK Gambling Commission has introduced a new licence condition under its Licence Conditions and Codes of Practice (LCCP) to tighten oversight of land-based gambling licences. Beginning 29 July 2026, Licence Condition 18.1.1 will be adopted and gives the regulator authority to order removal of gaming machines it has identified as non-compliant from licensed UK premises.
The condition applies to all non-remote gambling operators, who will be required to withdraw any gaming machines the Commission flags as non-compliant. That withdrawal duty is now written into the LCCP rather than being handled through ad hoc measures.
The move formally strengthens the Commission’s supervision of machines in UK venues and creates a clearer compliance route for dealing with devices the regulator considers not to meet required standards.
