DCMS laments black market sponsors but they will remain for at least another full PL season
The UK’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport has told SBC News it laments the presence of black market sponsors in British sport and that a consultation “will go live soon” as it looks to ban unlicensed operators from sponsorship deals. The department framed the consultation as the next step in addressing unlicensed sponsorship activity.
Licensed operators in the sector — notably Ladbrokes Coral owner Entain — have grown increasingly frustrated about the presence of unlicensed sponsors. Despite the planned consultation, DCMS accepts those black market sponsors will remain for at least another full Premier League season.
That means any immediate removal of unlicensed sponsorship from UK sport is unlikely before the end of the coming PL season; the consultation starts the process but does not strip existing deals today. The announcement keeps the current sponsorship landscape in place while policy work continues.
Player angle: Because unlicensed sponsors are expected to stay through the next Premier League season, players should watch how regulation efforts could affect advertising and the competitive landscape among licensed operators. Our fast payout casinos guide has the up-to-date picture.
